A large table which incorporates the Penn Valley slide mechanism.
Paul Downs makes the best slide mechanisms available.
It's no revelation that most slide mechanisms stink - what is remarkable is that so little has been done to make them better. We have developed slide systems that are truly easy to use. Most of the mechanisms that we make combine the following features:
The table is easy for one person to open.
The leaves store inside the table.
The mechanism doesn't get in the way of your legs.
The single exception to the list above is for round and square tables. The geometry of such tables don't allow us to store the leaves inside the base. If storage is a problem, we generally engineer a sideboard with a dedicated storage space for the table leaves. We make several types of mechanisms:
A pedestal table with an open base and two internally stored 12" wide leaves.
A pedestal table with a closed base and three or four internally stored 15" wide leaves.
A 4 legged table with two 24" leaves.
Round or square tables with leaves that do not store in the base.
